East Falmouth is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Falmouth in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. It is located at the base of Massachusetts' "fishhook" peninsula (see map at right). The population was 6,615 at the 2000 census.

Geography

East Falmouth is located at (41.565096, -70.549984)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.3 km² (6.3 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it (13.38%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 6,615 people, 2,828 households, and 1,923 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 468.6/km² (1,214.8/mi²). There were 4,323 housing units at an average density of 306.3/km² (793.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.20% White, 2.92% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.68% from other races, and 2.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.75% of the population.

There were 2,828 households out of which 24.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.79.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $42,788, and the median income for a family was $48,302. Males had a median income of $36,884 versus $26,875 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $24,041. About 6.2% of families and 8.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.0% of those under age 18 and 4.6% of those age 65 or over.

Seacoast Shores

Seacoast Shores, formerly known as "Jenkin's Neck", is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Falmouth,[3] containing 905 homes. The Seacoast Shores Association is a not-for-profit organization located in Seacoast Shores that maintains many right of ways and a private beach.
